Parkrun again: another milestone

Life is getting stupidly busy, hence the blog getting a tad sporadic, but I do want to continue to update when I have the time. This post is also a few days after the event but hey ho!

Grandad came North to do parkrun with me this weekend: although I say WITH me - he wanted to run it himself (which I was quite glad of). Meant I could plod along at my own happy (and slow) pace with the intention of getting to the 2km marker without stopping - or when he passed me on the way back.

First km passed absolutely fine - was feeling pretty good about making it to the next marker, and kept plodding on at a nice slow pace (averaging about 11:30/mile) - felt like I could keep going forever. So I decided to try and make it all the way to the 3k marker - but with a tiny wee voice in my head saying maybe I could go the whole way.  I didn't want to promise myself it because I wanted to allow myself to stop if I needed  - but I did keep going.

Just after the 3km marker I started taking over some of the straggly people (who would have been me a week ago) and about half way between the 4km marker and the finish Grandad caught up with me (after finishing, resting, and coming back again). I know he was trying to be helpful but it was actually quite frustrating because he was trying to speed me up - and I was getting really tired by then - plus he kept saying daft stuff (like telling me to thank marshals - which I was doing!).

Pushed for the finish line a little earlier than I should - partly to get away from Grandad and partly to try and overtake the woman in front if I could ... but as my heart rate was already quite high I had a slight asthma issue as I picked up my number. This would be why I always keep my inhaler on me.

Pretty proud that I managed to run 3.11 miles without stopping to be honest (or for 35 minutes - both apply). Might try and get out for some hill training at some point this week - but need a bit of rest for my poor joints! New photos from last two parkruns should be coming up on the slideshow soon.
